Easter egg on face of Wyoming

April 5, 2007

A lesson to the Wyoming state assembly and governor’s office: When the White House requests your state’s artists to come up with the “state Easter egg” for a display in Washington D.C., you better get “cracking.” (sorry, bad egg humor there)Easter Eggs (AP)

Above at left, you can see the Montana State Easter Egg, decorated by artist Jill Hodges of Billings. Very nice.

At right is the Wyoming State Easter Egg decorated by Philip M. LeDonne of Elmhurst, Ill., who is a son of an administrator at the American Egg Board. Not as good.

Seems that the governor’s office never got the note about doing an official egg, so the American Egg Board “scrambled” to find a replacement.

OK! OK! … Enough egg puns! I’ll stick to good “yolks” from here on out …

From the Associated Press:

The American Egg Board had LeDonne, the son of an “administrative person” at the board, decorate the egg after it couldn’t locate a Wyoming egg artist, said board director of state programs Christine Bushway.

Cara Eastwood, spokeswoman for Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal, said no one contacted the governor’s office about finding a Wyoming artist.

Camellia El-Antably, deputy manager of the Wyoming Arts Council, said the other eggs showed “real thought” in how they represent their state.

“We’re disappointed that we were not contacted to be asked to help find an artist who could represent our state,” El-Antably said. “And we hope in the future to have an artist that can represent Wyoming.”

I have no idea how hard they looked for an artist in Wyoming, but I guarantee you we have many people here that could have represented our state, on an egg. Frankly, I think my dauchshund could have done a better job!!!! What are the qualifications to enter this contest??? I promise you many people in Wyoming, will be outraged with this decision, to use someone’s kid to make an egg for our state!!!

I don’t think it was a Wyoming mistake, it probably was an Egg Board mistake not getting the info to the appropriate state official. And then the Egg Board had to cover their butts with the “bad egg”.

    Thanks for reading Lisa 🙂
