Local man almost falls over Niagara Falls

Rescue at falls (AP)

A local student had a harrowing experience at Niagara Falls Saturday, almost getting a close-up view of what it’s like to go over the falls in a barrel (sans barrel).

The story in today’s Lancaster New Era (my employer’s newspaper) chronicles the incident, in which the student, Waldek Kubicki, 29, of Hummelstown, chased his cell phone down an icy bank and almost went into the drink about 50 feet from the crest of the Horseshoe Falls.

Yipes! Kubicki was stuck on the icy ledge just inches from the riverbank until rescuers could get to him.

Check out the article in today’s Lancaster New Era for more.

And yes, sadly, he lost his phone to the murky depths (or at the Falls, the heights…)
