“Deal or No Deal” awards top prize in UK

January 11, 2007

I’m a huge game-show fan. Heck, I learned to count in $25 increments as a 3-year-old watching the old game show “Bullseye” and Bob Barker on “The Price is Right. You never know when you’re gonna get that call to “Come on down” to contestants’ row, right?

So when I saw that someone FINALLY beat the banker on “Deal or No Deal” and won the top prize, I had to bring it to you. Thanks to BuzzerBlog for bringing this up.

But, they didn’t beat him in the States. It happened on the British version of “Deal” on Channel4, hosted by Noel Edmonds.

Edmonds mentioned that the game has only gotten to a final box opening twice in history with a chance at the £250,000 top prize, and both times the contestant came up short.

Video clip after the break!

Here’s the clip:

Laura Pearce, only 24, turned down the bank’s offer of £45,000 with £3,000 and £250,000 left on the board. That took some serious guts. The BBC story tells more about the scene in the studio and Pearce’s efforts to keep the secret of her winnings from the show taping Nov. 14 until now.

Congrats to Laura!

Just thought you should know about a new website that has a downloadable guide written by a casting director that advises how to become a contestant on different types of game shows, reality shows, and talent shows. It is only ten dollars.
