Attack of the killer potatoes!

December 14, 2006

I grew up near the Youngstown, Ohio, area. It can be a violent town. Combine this with grocery-store express-lane rage, and anything can happen.

PotatoesBut I’ve never heard of anyone using produce as a weapon. Until now.

From the Tribune-Chronicle (thanks to Jen for the tip):

LIBERTY — A Youngstown woman could be facing assault charges after striking a grocery store manager in the head with a 10-pound bag of potatoes.

Scott Renzenbrink, 45, told police he was called Thursday to a register at Giant Eagle on Belmont Avenue by a clerk who was having a problem with a customer.

The 59-year-old woman told him she was upset about having to wait in line, a report reads. Renzenbrink turned to walk away when he thought his conversation with the customer was over and was then struck with the bag of potatoes, police said.

A witness followed the woman out to the parking lot and took down her license plate number.

Renzenbrink identified the woman by a photo provided through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and was advised by police to file charges in the Girard Municipal Court.

Good thing she didn’t have a potato gun.
