UPDATE: iPhone details leak out?

December 4, 2006

Leaks were rampant this weekend on Apple’s likely venture into the cellular phone market.

iPhone? hmmm?Several sites are posting Apple’s “iPhone” patent application (text of application here), including Myiphone.com and EverythingIphone.com. Hmmm…wonder what those sites specialize in?

Also, Engadget tells that Digg.com founder Kevin Rose leaked some iPhone specifications on his weekly podcast, DiggNation (video clip after the jump).

From the Engadget post:

According to Kevin, who, to his credit, accurately predicted one of Apple’s most secretive and hyped launches of 2005, the iPod nano, the iPhone will feature the following:

  • January launch on “all” providers, both CDMA and GSM
  • Extremely small form factor
  • Two battery design (with single charger) — one for playing music, the other for phone functions
  • Flash memory: 4GB for $249, 8GB for $449
  • “Slide-out keyboard”
  • Possibly touchscreen

Still have to wait until MacWorld in January for the official skinny from Steve Jobs himself. But the possible phone already has its doubters in the industry.

[UPDATE: Youtube has the clip of Rose spilling the beans… :
